The City of Los Angeles offers certain financial reimbursements for retrofitting jobs. The LA City Council filed a motion last week to look into funding sources for assisting property owners in financing seismic retrofitting projects.
LOS ANGELES, March 29, 2018 (Newswire.com) - Los Angeles Retrofit and Construction has announced the opening of new offices in Encino to better equip its operations to assist property owners throughout a wider swath of Southern California. The expansion of services to the greater Los Angeles region comes in light of an influx of projects stemming from new building code regulations that require older buildings to undergo soft-story retrofit and seismic retrofitting improvements.
Last week The Los Angeles Times reported that the LA City Council is exploring new ways to assist property owners in financing building retrofitting, specifically for soft-story buildings that have structural deficiencies that can potentially lead to structural failure. The City Council's motion stated the city will consider various sources of funding to subsidize retrofitting jobs for property owners. Currently, the city does provide for reimbursements for jobs that have already been completed.
Los Angeles currently has the strongest and most stringent earthquake-safety building codes in the nation. In 2015, the city passed a law requiring seismic retrofitting for approximately 15,000 buildings in the city. According to the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety,(DBS) the ordinance "requires the retrofit of pre-1978 wood-frame soft-story buildings and non-ductile concrete buildings."
The DBS website maintains a database of buildings that have been ordered to comply, and orders have been sent out between May 2016 to November 2017. From receipt of the order from the city, property owners have seven years to complete the proper retrofit construction remedies.
The scope of work that Los Angeles Retrofit and Construction covers include soft-story retrofit, foundation repair, caissons and grade beams, slab crack repair, and other general remodeling and construction services that ensure compliance with Ordinance 183893. Each seismic retrofitting project is specifically designed and estimated.
Los Angeles Retrofit and Construction Inc. was founded in Sherman Oaks by a team of designers and contractors well-versed in seismic retrofitting and local building codes. Inquiries can sent through their website at LosAngelesRandC.com or over the phone.
