Insight Treatment Cites Recent Studies Showing Teens and Young Adults Have Higher Prevalence of Mental Illness

The Insight Treatment Center, mental health treatment centers in Los Angeles, have cited studies that more teens and young adults have a mental illness by age than any other group. Insight Treatment offers help with alcohol and drug abuse, as well as mental illness.

A recent study by the NIH, the National Institute of Mental Health, learned that one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness, 46.6 million people in total. However, that number was highest among people between the ages of 18 to 25. They accounted for 25.8% of all Americans who had any mental illness.

For the purposes of the study, “any mental illness” was defined as a “mental, behavioral or emotional disorder.” The Insight Treatment Center has helped young adults from the ages of 14 to 20 for more than 25 years with addiction and mental health issues through their outpatient treatment programs.

“Insight Treatment started more than 20 years ago with a focus on teens' struggles with drugs and alcohol, but over the years we realized we could do so much more. So, we expanded. Now, we help with self-harm, behavioral problems, emotional problems and many others. The results of this study weren’t surprising; because we’ve seen it in the teens we treat. However, there is hope. We’ve managed to help thousands to overcome their underlying issues,” said Frederik Schulin, CEO and Partner at Insight Treatment.

The Insight Treatment Program has locations in both Pasadena and Van Nuys. In addition to the intensive outpatient program, the Insight Academy offers therapeutic sober day school as well.
